Since 2015, MicroEnergy International permanently operates from Colombia for the Central and South American region, constituting a base of knowledge and local expertise in the territory.
With more than 40 partners in the region, the ME LATAM Hub works with international development agencies and government entities, financial and microfinance institutions, suppliers of energy products and services, research centers and academia, in order to structure inclusive business models of clean energy access.
With an in depth knowledge of the region and its cultural diversity, ME LATAM studies and designs customized clean energy access solutions adapted to each regulatory, economic and socio-cultural context thereby managing project design, evaluating and optimizing energy products and services, and ensuring that financial instruments are adapted to the opportunities and needs of the business sector and end users.
LATEST PROJECTS
Funded by the FOMIN and the Nordic Development Fund, the EcoMicro program aims at training twelve microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Latin America and the Caribbean to develop green financial products and reduce their loan portfolio vulnerability to climate change.
MEI has been selected to lead the consortium (Afi, PCC) and implement a Green Microinsurance scheme in Bolivia supporting the MFI Fundación Sartawi.
Scaling-up Cookstoves NAMA in Colombia
The NAMA project aims at designing innovative business models for SMEs fostering entrepreneurship and bolstering the formation of strategic alliances amongst the actors involved in the value chain of improved cooking stoves in Colombia. The business models are based on innovation and sustainability and integrate financial and fiscal mechanisms, therein strengthening the value chain.
Green Credit Design and Promotion in Honduras
ME Consult is designing and implementing a green credit product for ODEF Financiera and supporting the MFI in the promotion and capacity building of this green financial mechanism
